My Reflection in Statistics

Module 1. Introduction to Educational
Unfortunately, I was not able attend this phase of the modules of the course EDUC 213. In my mind back then, statistics might not interest me. I had been almost failing in the subject since high school till college. However, as i started reflecting with its description, I becoming more appreciating with its essence. It has been influencing many fields, education, politics, showbiz and others. We  list numerical values and it gives us a better basis of our future conclusion. This is practically applied in recommendation on education out of surveys, votes in Myx or MTv, numbers of social networking sites users... So statistics is inevitable, and I must learn to like it.

Module 2. Variables: The Subject Matter of Statistics and Research
Attending every sessions of our statistics class  keeps on honing my perspective in life. Like for example in this module, I was moved to settle which should I focused. Variables tells me where should I be concerned with. This means what should I prioritized because it is more important what should I learn to accept since I can no longer do anything about it. I was reminded with the verse found in Philippians 3:13b forgeting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. Lastly, at the end of this module I tried settling with the real variables in my life.

Module 3. Integration of Innovation in Statistics
After the session I made a conclusion that many might be asking, "why needs innovation in education? This is the way I was taught and been teaching since before yet producing many successful professionals."  In the activity in this module I was able to realized that there is indeed a need of innovations. What I am talking about is relevance of education in the type of learners we have today. They are more dynamic and more interested with the latest technology specially in computer and internet. I, myself just  realized how unfamiliar am I with this latest technology as I find some difficulty in improving this blogs. In the other side of the story, as our professor keeps om reminding us about how many waste were created out of the papers we used in paper works, project and others if this can be minimized through using the technology we already have, then why not?

Module 4. Measuring of Central Location
This is our report and what really catches my interest about the central location is that it tells representation of many set of data. It tells us about fairness. This discourages us to make a bias assumption.
Furthermore, we are also oriented with the use excel for more convenient and precise way of solving the central location.

5. Measure of Variation
"This is the start of my calvary", I said in my mind. A complex formula that me myself may not familiar how it was been derived. Yet the reporters were able to make the discussion "lively", I give credit to Sir Reden Ulo.Hehe. Measure at variation tells us that is the sets of data the values are not alike the extent w/c they vary is a serious concern of this module. Are we not reminded the same differences we human posses? I believe this module thought us that I should learn to accept its existence, difference might be harmful for us in some instance, but it gives color to the world. Makulay ang buhay ika nga.

6. Measure at Correlation
Solving....solving......solving. In this module I had learn my place. I failed with one of our assignment on this module, yet remind me of what I learned from the second module. I should learn to accept it and work on to what I can still improve. Its about correlating the relationship at my attitude to my success. hehe.

7. The Normal distribution
There are lots of mountains in this module. I was not paying attention much since I am still in the verge of emotional instability. I just receive my failed score at our assignment from the previous module. But what caught my attention was the recognition of its inventor Carl Freidrich Gauss. This tells me two things, we should give credit to person’s worth of it and what we are doing on our every effort echoes the future. So if God give us more life to live, what decision will we make?

8. Sampling Theories and Hypothesis Testing
In this module we were taught on making best decision. Some on the level of significance or level of significance is advised to be and is life related study and .05 for academics in our decision; this is most likely influenced by our values system. Using my learning from the second module, we can say that this is our dependent variable and the concern we can

9. The T - Test, z - Test, and Chi - Square
I have learned the use of f-test and z-test when we want to have comparative study on our groups of data. If the number at observation is less than 20 we use t-test and z-test if greater. Chi-square in the othr hand is used to test the dependence of one variable from another variable.

10. Analyse of Variance
Whew! Lots of boxes! Well just a figure of speech. It’s same with t and z-test except that it compares more than two group of observation. On the other hand, analysis of variance has an advantage over the other because in minimizes time and effort expanded when computation and testing more than two samples.

11. Linear and Multiple-Regression Analysis
If you can predict the future, will you be happy? Well, here we can do forecasting just like what could happen for certain time in the future. However, it’s just an estimate on what statistics nature really is. It is possible if you are given a series of values for two variables, when the values of one variable depend on the other, it is possible to estimate the value of dependent variable corresponding to a given value of the independent variable.

12. Computer Statistical Application
If excel were discover ahead the discovery of the formula, will it make me happier? Hehe. I am happy to discover the convinced and less time convincing way of solving many mathematical treatment using excel and to use internet to be useful to advocate ESD and Statistics.

Statistics as a Platform in Education for Sustainable Development

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a rather new field of education. We can see it as an innovative kind of future education for school linking the child's development with the future challenges of society.

Using statistical tools and treatment, we give better evaluation on how this vision are being achieved. It provides tool on how we can give better basis and recommendations for improvement. Making the concept of sustainable development operational for public policies raises important challenges in terms of measurement. Without indicators or a quantitative framework, sustainable development policies lack a solid foundation on which to advance.

I prepared a video presentation of our school and interviewed few of my students about  how does learning in school enable them to be aware of the issues in their society. After watching please do response with the question "What is the issue/issues are more evident in your community?".(Sorry internet connection is not sufficient for me to upload it. I'll try again next time, stay tune!)

Let Us have Comics in the Classroom!

Bitstrips for Schools is an educational and safe web service that empowers students to make and share great comics without drawing a line, and lets teachers unlock the educational power of comics.

Why Bitstrips?

  • Teachers can create engaging assignment in the form of interaction comic strips.
  • Students can create cartoon characters of themselves, which teachers can place in lessons. Students are literally their own school work!
  • students can collaborate on re-mixable comic strips for group work assignment.
  • Teacher-made lessons can be rated and shared with other teachers through Bitstrips' online assignment library.
  • Imagine how much papers can be conserved and trees be saved from being consumed for paper production!
Here is my simple presentation using bitstrips, hope you'll like it!

What a break through!

We are learning to use MS Excel in studying statistics. It has been a meaningful time for me to know more convenient and less time consuming ways on getting result of any statistical treatment.
